BOTOX® INSTRUCTIONS
Before getting your Botox® treatment please read the following instructions carefully. You will also need to fill out the Consent Form and bring it with you to your appointment.
Pre-Treatment Instructions
- To avoid bruising, do not take any medications or supplements such as Aspirin, Ibuprofin, Ginger, Gingko, Ginseng, Biloba, Vitamin E, etc.
- Do not use Botox® if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or suffer from a neurological disorder.
- Avoid alcohol twenty-four hours prior to treatment.
- Do not use Botox® if you are allergic to any of the ingredients found in Botox.
- Minimize sun exposure as sun burned skin is difficult to treat.
- Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal cream to the area one-two days prior to treatment.
- Avoid Alpha Hydroxy Acids that have greater than a 10% concentration and Retinoid two days prior to treatment.
- Inform the physician or registered nurse treating your areas if you have history of perioral herpes in advance as you may require pre treatment with oral medications.
Post-Treatment Instructions
* First time Botox® users may experience a slight headache, which is present for the first few days until the muscles completely relax.
- Keep your head elevated for at least four hours if your upper face was treated.
- Avoid pressure to the injection site for at least four hours and avoid tight fitting headwear.
- Contract the injected muscle (i.e.: practice frowning, raising your eye brows, or squinting) repeatedly for one-two hours.
- Avoid strenuous exercise activity for twenty-four hours.
- Ideally, no flying on a plane for twenty-four hours.
- Avoid facials or saunas four hours after your treatment. This will reduce the risk of raising your blood pressure and therefore minimize the risk of temporary bruising.
- Avoid taking Advil, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, etc. in order to reduce the risk of bleeding/bruising.
- Avoid alcohol for twenty-four hours after treatment.
- Avoid Retin-A, Glycolic Acid, Vitamin C, and Kinerase for twenty-four hours to the treated areas.
- Some small red dots may be visible on the skin after treatment as well as some minor bruising.
- Results for your treatment may take up to fourteen days to take full effect. The effectiveness of Botox® will last longer with successive treatments.
- Your results will last three-four months.
- If you take medications for medical reasons, such as Aspirin, Plavix, or Coumadin, continue to do so.
- You may return for additional injections in two weeks if desired if complete results are not achieved after your first treatment.
Risks: Headache, bruising, pain during injections, asymmetry, twitching, numbness and temporary drooping of the eye lids or eyebrows.
